This Privacy Policy explains how filmclub.london (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you buy tickets or products from us, sign up for our announcements, or use our website at filmclub.london.
Film Club London is operated by Benjamin Kearney. We are the “data controller” responsible for your personal data. For any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at hello@filmclub.london.
We handle your data in line with UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What data we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- Contact details — your name and email address.
- Order information — the tickets or products you buy, order dates, and amounts.
- Payment information — processed securely by Stripe (see below). We do not store your full card details.
- Communications — any messages you send us by email.
- Website usage — basic technical data such as your device type and pages visited.
How and why we use your data
We use your personal data for the following purposes, each with a lawful basis under UK GDPR:
- To fulfil your order — issuing tickets, sending products, and providing customer support. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
- To send you announcements about upcoming screenings and events, where you have signed up to hear from us. Lawful basis: consent. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by emailing us.
- To prevent fraud and keep our service secure. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
- To meet our legal and tax obligations, such as keeping financial records. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
Payments and Stripe
We use Stripe to process payments. When you pay, your card details are handled directly by Stripe and are not seen or stored by us.
Stripe collects identifying information about the devices that connect to its services, including through cookies and similar technologies, and uses this to operate and improve its services, including for fraud detection, authentication, and analytics. You can read more in Stripe’s Privacy Policy.
Marketing
By purchasing a ticket, you are agreeing to relevant email contact and marketing. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw your consent at any time without affecting any orders you have already placed. Emails are sent via Brevo. Read more in Brevo’s Privacy Policy.
Cookies
Our website uses only strictly necessary cookies that are required for it to function and stay secure. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, so no cookie consent banner is shown. If this changes in future and we add analytics or similar, we will update this policy and introduce a consent option. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time.
Who we share your data with
We share data only where necessary to run our service, including with:
- Stripe — to process payments.
- Our email and website providers — to deliver announcements and host our site.
We never sell your personal data. Some of these providers may process data outside the UK; where they do, they are required to protect it to a standard equivalent to UK law.
How long we keep your data
We keep your data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected. Financial and transaction records are kept for as long as required by law (generally up to six years). Marketing contact details are kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct inaccurate data;
- ask us to delete your data;
- restrict or object to how we use your data;
- request a copy of your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it.
